Cultural English Courses

We offer you the opportunity to study English in the morning and join our cultural programme in the afternoon.

Your teachers
Your morning teacher is Polly Senior, who teaches at her home in Woodstock or a teaching room in Oxford and your afternoon teacher is either Nick Owen, Jeannie Martin or Peter Gill, all of whom are very interesting, experienced and well qualified teachers. Polly will ensure that you have a relaxed and comfortable stay in Oxford and is your first point of contact throughout your stay.

Your host family
Your host family are Steve and Rose Lenhardt who are very experienced in looking after international visitors and have a very comfortable home close to Oxford, with WIFI interent access. They can look after 2 international visitors in separate rooms and offer a private bathroom, breakfast and traditional home cooked food.

Mornings:
09.30 to 12.30 - 1:1 or 1:2 lessons with your teacher in Oxford/Woodstock
Lessons include:

  • grammar
  • speaking
  • writing

Afternoons:
14.00 to 17.00 -
You can choose to specialise in one of the subjects below or you can take the general cultural option:
  • art
  • English gardens
  • history
  • photography
  • literature
Afternoon activities are led by a teacher who will take you to the undiscovered parts of Oxford and Oxfordshire, where you will have a fascinating insight into
the real England. You will also have the opportunity to practise your conversation skills and discuss social issues or just chat in a
traditional Oxford coffee shop!

A typical week includes the following afternoon activities:
 
Monday
Your teacher will take you on a tour of Oxford University Colleges including a visit to St. Mary's Church Tower which gives you fantastic views of Oxford.
 
Tuesday
With your teacher you can visit AfterBlenheim Palace house and gardens, taking in the Winston Churchill exhibition and afternoon tea on the water terrace.

Wednesday
After your teacher has chosen a traditional English pub for lunch you can take in the delights of the of the Cotswolds, stopping off at some beautiful English villages for photographs and afternoon tea!

Thursday
You and your teacher can explore the Pitt Rivers Museum, or visit Oxford University's Botanical Gardens or spend the afternoon punting on the river (weather permitting) or visit Rousham House and gardens built in 1635.
 
 
 
Friday
Your teacher can take you on a shopping trip to Bicester Village , followed by an evening ghost tour of Oxford and drinks in Oxford's oldest tavern in the evening. Don't be spooked!

Saturday
Excursion to London, Bath, Cambridge, Warwick, Stratford (subject to availability).
 
Sunday
Relax and sleep on your day off or do some more sightseeing!
